Thought flows in terms of stories...

Stories about events, stories about people, and stories about intentions and achievements. The best teachers are the best story tellers. We learn in the form of stories-Frank Smith. An educational system isn't worth a great deal if it teaches young people how to make a living but doesn't teach them how to make a life-Author Unknown.

Prepare your rationale of research study and the place as your research environment

Prepare your rationale of research study
Rationale is very important when you plan to come up with concrete ideas based on facts and theories. Rationale serves as the conduit of information to justify concerning the pros and cons of your research.

For example in my study (referring to my thesis), it said that it must have been expected that most of the baccalaureate degrees that have been offered by various learning institutions like universities require language acquisition. As I conducted my research study at the CIT, almost all students on the campus are being obliged to enroll the English subject even if the student is taking up a course...any student who majors in Science or any subject, except English as the second language.

However, it is sad to note that being obligated to study such a major tool with the "irrelevant subject mindset" of the student, the possibility to fluently and confidently understand the language can be a huge factor in the syntax and semantic acquisition of the learner himself. The inclination to the importance of speaking, writing, reading, and listening will become less than what most students aim to acquire because of the diversity and period of time to learn the language.

This is one of the reasons why the researcher like me decided to conduct a study on the level of language acquisition of students who are taking up Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. In this study, the researcher aims to internalize the simple but deep insights of the students on the usage and inclusion of universal language in their program.

Prepare the place as your research environment
I choose to conduct my research study at the Cebu Institute of Technology- University (CIT University) (formerly known as Cebu Institute of Technology) here in the Philippines which is a private non-sectarian academic institution, providing basic and higher education with a foundation in general and technological education.

As we all know that CIT is the first higher educational institution (HEI) in the Visayas and Mindanao classified as Category A. This places CIT as a mature teaching institution under the CHED-IQUAME framework. IQUAME is Institutional Quality Assurance through Monitoring and Evaluation, a system of higher education quality assurance and classification. CIT is one of only nine schools nationwide awarded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as Center of Excellence in Information Technology Education.

What is Filipino version of chamber theatre?

What is chamber theatre? According to the 3 explanations published online, in the 1st explanation, the chamber theater is an interpretation of literary works put on the stage, usually a majority of the text is kept in-tact. Minimal set pieces, costumes do not always suggest the character.

In the 2nd explanation, the chamber theatre is a style advocated by Robert Breen as a theatrical approach to performing narrative literature. It is a still-evolving form, so do not hesitate to experiment to find the most effective and  appropriate ways to make the script come alive as theatre. Most of its techniques are the same as those in Story Theatre, since both use the same basic approach to full-stage performance.

In the 3rd explanation, the chamber theatre is a method of adapting literary works to the stage using a maximal amount of the work's original text and often minimal and suggestive settings. The narration is included in the performed text and the narrator might be played by multiple actors.

Further, Professor Robert S. Breen (1909-1991) introduced "Chamber Theater" to his Oral Interpretation Classes at Northwestern University in 1947. Northwestern’s Professor of Performance Studies Frank Galati, who studied Chamber Theater with Dr. Breen, has directed highly acclaimed Chamber Theater Productions for the Goodman Theater and Steppenwolf Theater Companies in Chicago. Galati’s Chamber Theater adaptation of John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath won two Tony Awards on Broadway. One of the most famous and elaborate examples of chamber theatre is David Edgar's The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, in which Charles Dickens' characters narrate themselves in third person.

Set pieces are carried in and taken away during the performance, rather than between scenes, and objects may be represented in a mimetic manner. Another example is Matthew Spangler's stage adaptation of Khaled Hosseini's novel The Kite Runner.

Here are the samples of full and semi versions of Filipino Chamber Theatre that really give emphasis to the importance of a genre and a literary chic used as a theatrical approach to performing narrative literature.  The 4th year students of Professional Academy of the Philippines (PAP) in Cebu have rendered fully the Filipino version of Chamber Theatre based on adapting literary works to the stage using a maximal amount of the work's original text and often minimal and suggestive settings. Observe how they categorically interpret and perform on stage. Enjoy and watch the sui generis Chamber Theatre…

In-Service Training & Professional Qualities: Pros and Cons of Effective Teachers

The teaching profession must be associated with the needs of teachers who have possessed with professional qualities. The needs must encompass the following: positive atmosphere in a class wherein the students are very attentive and responsive to the discussion and some other related activities to be done inside the classroom; fair treatment among the students and the teacher himself in day-to-day living and teaching; firmness and understanding from their superiors; recognition for their contributions as far as effective teaching and humane lesson application are concerned; and chance for professional growth.

The Advantages: The Teacher’s Role

I agree with this statement that…the development and continuing search for savvy and information, as well as the enhancement of new skills in the scientific processes become the center of focus in the teachers learning activities.

According to Dr. Francisco Zulueta, the teacher should help and motivate students learn how to ask interesting questions. The teacher’s own questioning strategy will serve as a model or a pattern to all the learners. It is indispensable that the teacher allows certain flexibility in the manner that the learners are doing their assigned tasks. The teacher should involve the students in planning their own ways of gathering data to test their hypothesis. Creativity will in effect enhance their own methodologies of managing their own learning activity.

It is also supported by another explanation that the teacher's deeper sense of purpose includes maintaining an attentive attitude towards conflicts between children. The classroom environment fosters numerous interactions between multiple children on a daily basis, creating the largest social component of a child's life. Shaping a child's social development, therefore, falls on the teacher who takes on the role of mediator and coach.

As far as the roles of teacher are concerned, Gregorio expounded on the several roles that…since learning is an active process on the part of the learner, it is not possible for the teacher to learn for the student. In a very real sense, the teacher cannot make the student learn, but the former can have a tremendous influence on learning.
The teacher can help stimulate or motivate the learner by bringing the latter to see the connection between the learning problem and some significant needs or interests of the student. The teacher can help the learner make those reactions which are to be learned, and help the learner obtain the appropriate reaction by guiding his thinking through questions that focus attention on particular aspects of the problem which might otherwise be overlooked.

Thus, the teacher may have a great influence by helping the learner get satisfaction from the right source of reactions. As the desired behavior is reiterated over and over, adequate practice can be provided and progress made toward a high level of learning.

The Disadvantages: A Question of Faith

One of the high school students shared this open letter to all the teachers, and here is the content entitled "A Question of Faith" of said letter: What makes up a harmonious school? Of course, it is a school that has credible, but strict teachers where the students feel like they’re under a martial law. Likewise, it is a school where both the teachers and students are working together for the betterment of the school. I think I’ll have to pick the latter. I believe that what runs a learning institution is unity. Without this, a school can be threatened with abuses and troubles by the external forces. The reason is that it lacks of interaction between the teacher and students.
So let’s talk about this student-teacher relation. This involves different teachers and teaching ways. I agree that when students and teachers have good communication and interaction, the students have confidence too because they expect help from teachers when they really need it, and won’t hesitate to ask one.

But sad to say, there are other teachers who are forcing their students to be what they are not. I mean they want each student to do a certain task, but the problem is, the student has no capacity to do that thing. Well, it is good to train the student with his weaknesses but forcing him to do the task that is against his own volition will only worsen the situation. The students may feel inferior to being dictated or forced by their teachers. So, “Ma’am or Sir if you’re one of them…please wake up; and perhaps, you’re out of your mind, you know? You too have weaknesses—please give your students a little consideration or break.”

Another type of teacher is where the students are most afraid of…a strict teacher! This type of teacher can make the students shake their knees when the teacher enters the room. The students are “all-eyes” and very attentive to the teacher because if you don’t pay attention, you will be sent out of the room without question, and you will get embarrassed afterward. There’s no other voice in the room, but the teacher only who is discussing “this and that,” as well as explaining her/his subject matter. The teacher does it well, and the discussion is running smoothly. She/he stops and asks the students if they understand the lessons. The students, because of fear of being scolded, nervously answered “yes.” The next day, “test.”

As a result, no one gets a perfect score and several get zero. When asked by the Tribune journalist why do these terrible things happen? The students have just simply replied, “Ma’am/Sir, we are afraid of you.” The teacher has also answered, “But why?” “It's because you’re so strict...Ma’am/Sir, and we can’t even trace a smile on your face. Every time you come to this room, our hearts beat so fast that we can’t understand what you are discussing. Our hands are so cold and are shaking, too.” This would be the most-encountered problem of a strict teacher. No matter how competent or credible you are, if you practice strictness beyond the limitation, the students can’t fully learn what you are trying to explain to them.

On the other hand, there are still teachers who are imposing liberalism and nonchalance on their classes. When they talk, the students also talk, but they don’t mind this, after all, students are just at the tips of their pens, so to say. They never mind students of harassing or abusing them. They’ll just say, “Wait for your report card.” Result, poor grades. So fellow students, respect our teachers, they’re our parents in school. They deserve to be cared and valued. You might just have nicer grades because being nice and kind also count on your grades, but don’t be too much haughty to curry favor with the teachers.

What I like most of a teacher is the one who can maximize the students’ talents, who can have confidence or trust in her/his students, and who can guide them or lead them to the right track of life. I believe that these are the aims of most teachers, but still others are indifferent. I get fully impressed about teachers who can tickle their students’ minds and even feelings. Though the room is hot, congested and noisy, the teacher can still make the students laugh. Through this, the teacher and students can build up a good and strong relation among themselves.

Lastly, I agree with this concluding paragraph…that the students also have responsibilities. So, with the help of our teachers, we can make this learning institution one of the best schools in town. Participation, unity, friendliness, and the other virtues, we need these characteristics from both the teachers and students to achieve a nice student-teacher relation. What counts most in a certain learning institution is the teaching force. If we have more teachers, then we are blessed. Teaching is a big deal. Being a teacher is not easy. It takes time, patience and effort to shape one's character and to build up one's rounded personality to become prolific in the future. We can't deny the fact that all teachers are the molders of the youth. There are a lot of responsibilities. You’re a teacher not because you discuss better than the others, not because you have higher educational attainment. You’re a teacher because you’re born for it. You are destined to be a teacher. Teaching is a talent…teachers are gifts. They deserve to be honored and praised not because of their achievements or capacity, but because they are teachers, like our Lord Jesus Christ who once became the greatest teacher in this world.

How does a school organ cater to the needs of students

A school organ caters to the needs of students in relation to the affairs and improvement of the school.

The development, as well as improvement of the school is the paper’s vision while helping the students express themselves in their mission.

In that way, I believe that there will be a good interaction or harmonious relationship between the faculty and students.

A true campus paper has no rooms for baseless and unfounded reports, articles and opinions. It singles out to publish a controversial issue and to let it be raised candidly and vehemently without necessarily inviting any court suit for libel.

If the learning institution cannot tolerate a maximum militancy, at least some crucial, related, scholarly, veritable and concrete pieces of research and reporting will do.

It takes just a little skill to be able to deliver iconoclastic notions in very distinct or vivid languages and styles that are respectable and acceptable by the reading and viewing public—the masses.

The administrative strategies concentrated on the manipulation of student affairs; for example, censorship of articles has already been rampantly practiced. Students who are wearing signs of protests against the oppressive educational system are either threatened or bullied.

A struggle limited only on the campus cannot win, for our real foe is the imperialist with its local cohorts who perpetuate the existing neo-colonial and semi-feudal conditions of the Philippines.

Through these existing problems, the campus paper can serve as a progressive student populace with canons of journalism and structural consciousness.

The canons of journalism are the best weapon to curb our thoughts and, at the same time, restrain from bandying about infallible scuttlebutt concerning administrative matters if they are deemed necessary.

For the information of everyone, there are 7 significant things as quoted and created for ethical mileage by different editors and writers in both local and international newspapers.

Thus, the canons of journalism are as follows: 1) Responsibility; 2) Freedom of the Press; 3) Independence; 4) Sincerity, Truthfulness, Accuracy; 5) Impartiality; 6) Fair Play; and 7) Decency.

The joy of living together: A cycle of service to the parents’ unconditional love and care for children

In a certain family, individual activities are as important as those who performed in groups. Parents should provide from time to time in each of their children the opportunity to spend time alone with them. Children will enjoy a lot having for a while “dad or mom” just for them. One day or more of being together at all times, the  family members are very delighted to go to the zoo or place where there is tranquility or fresh air everywhere flashing unto their countenances—free from pollution.

The question is not whether we have time to do it, we always fail, but it is taking time!

It is a big role of the parents to rear their children so much and care for them in order to be productive citizens someday. It is in this whole scenario or perspective that parents can give the best upshot to their children to do something great for the country. It is their responsibility to support them in terms of temporal and spiritual things; most importantly, their education caters a lot to the success and endless protection of the family and country as well. It is true that we should stress out how lucky we are…as parents to provide them best education, guidance and proper nutrition so that someday they will be our great leaders not only for the family members but also for the people around us as prolific citizens of our country.

We can’t deny the fact that parents must find ways and means to support them temporally and spiritually. Parents can give their children presents better than to give themselves devoting their time. As the saying goes, “If the parents were to start with proper guidance and right education of their children, they would spend more time with them." It was realized that the moments of fun and relaxation spent with family are the most precious memories of children.

To reckon with, during a family camp, an old man was sharing an experience that marked his childhood. His family was not particularly facile to do something prolific for the betterment of the family; but even worse, none of the family members in it is openly expressing love, care, value or good attitude towards him. That's why he cherished in his memory, a special event: the one where his mother who took care of him after the entire afternoon to make him a straw robot. This testimony of simple affection had enriched more than a lot of money that would have done to anyone.

A merchant asked his pal: "Do you know what I'm going to give my son for Christmas?" He showed him a piece of paper on which he had written: "To my son, I'll hang out with you every day of the week, and we will use it as you please…" We can’t reiterate it enough to say words or potent message: parents can give their children gifts better than to give themselves devoting their time. My question is...do we have time to do it? The question is not whether we have time to do it, we always fail, but it is taking time!

In a certain family, individual activities are as important as those who performed in groups. Parents should provide from time to time in each of their children the opportunity to spend time alone with them. Children will enjoy a lot having for a while “dad or mom” just for them. One day or more of being together at all times, the whole family is very delighted to go to the zoo or place where there is tranquility or fresh air everywhere flashing unto their countenances—free from pollution.

We anticipate more of the reactions on behalf of our children. In fact, before they were going to sleep, one of the boys told his parents: "We really had a wonderful day together...pointing directly to dad and mom..." The happy parents could not refuse, but agree to have spent the day with their children. In a family, of course, nothing can replace such wonderful time together and special moments with the children. For the children, it is a sense of security, understanding, and love that they can get from their parents emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually—all rolled into one. A very deep bond or strong relationship develops between parents and children.

A number of medical practitioners, especially those people who worked among the orphans of World War II have realized one thing: “Children who were recovering without too much trouble were precisely those who remembered spending quality time with family.” Again, to reiterate, people who worked among the orphans of World War II have realized one thing: “Children who were recovering without too much trouble were precisely those who remembered spending quality time with family.”

To give emphasis to the importance of family, people who worked among the orphans have realized one thing: “Children who were recovering without too much trouble were precisely those who remembered spending quality time with family.” … that means spending quality time together as a family, it is just like taking time for each other to discuss around a table, to help each other for the realization of a project, and perhaps to play a game that everyone can participate. As they popularly and correctly say, “A family that prays together stays together.”

Finally, it is a big role of the parents to rear their children so much and unconditionally love them in order to be productive citizens someday. It is in this positive situation that parents can give the best support to their children to do something great for the country. It is their responsibility to reach out in terms of temporal and spiritual things; most importantly, their education caters to the success of the family and country as well.

In giving this waiver, I understand that the school paper advisers are to join the said presscon in order for them to help monitor the discipline of the students. Thus, I am confident that my son/daughter will be in safe hands. Having stated this, in case of any untoward incident would happen that is beyond the human power to prevent, I shall not hold the school principal, school paper advisers or the faculty of Minglanilla National Science High School (MNSHS) liable for it. Since this is purely on voluntary process, it is my discretion to allow or not to allow my child to join in case my mind changes prior to the date.

Madame:

This waiver is to overtly countenance or give permission to my son
of                      Year, Section                                       to join the REGIONAL SCHOOLS PRESS CONFERENCE (RSPC) in ______________ writing category on November 30, December 1-3, 2008, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday at Cesar Cabahug Elementary School (located near old Mactan Bridge).

I understand that the training aims to impart basic journalistic savvy, spark his interest and enthusiasm in journalism, and equip him with journalistic skills to give him a competitive edge in the press conferences that he will be attending in the future. Moreover, the training also seeks to introduce current trends and techniques in journalism, not only for him in particular but also for the school paper adviser in general.

I understand that the parent concerned has no financial obligation to defray expenses during the 4-day stay. All expenses/payments for registration fee, transportation fee, food, snacks, presscon kits, etc. are shouldered by the school thru school paper adviser.

In giving this waiver, I understand that the school paper adviser will accompany the contestant in order for him to help monitor the discipline of the student. Thus, I am confident that my son will be in safe hands. Having stated this, in case of any untoward incident would happen that is beyond the human power to prevent, I shall not hold the school principal, school paper adviser or the faculty of Minglanilla National Science High School (MNSHS) liable for it. Since this is purely on voluntary process, it is my discretion to allow or not to allow my child to join in case my mind changes prior to the date.

Madame:

This waiver is to overtly give permission to my son/daughter
of                      Year, Section                                       to participate actively in the DIVISION SCHOOLS PRESS CONFERENCE (DSPC) in ______________ writing category on November 10-13,  2009, Tuesday (P.M.-departure), Wednesday, Thursday & Friday at Daanbantayan National High School, Daanbantayan, Cebu.

I understand that the training aims to impart knowledge in journalism to the student-participants, spark their interests/enthusiasms, and equip them with journalistic skills to give them a competitive edge in the press conferences that they will be attending in the future. Moreover, the training also seeks to introduce current trends and techniques in journalism, not only on the campus journalists in particular but also on the school paper advisers in general.

I understand that the parent/s concerned has/have no financial obligation to defray expenses during the 4-day stay. All expenses/payments for registration fee, transportation fee, presscon kits, etc. are shouldered by the school through PTA funds. However, for extra money to buy snacks and other personal items, I only let my son/daughter have pocket money for incidental expenses, except only for the food (rice, canned goods, etc.) that I want him/her to bring while on the way to the destined stay-venue for 4 days just to minimize expenses.

In giving this waiver, I understand that the school paper advisers, together with the principal, will accompany the writer-contestants in order for them to help monitor the discipline of each student. Thus, I am confident that my son/daughter will be in safe hands. Having stated this, in case of any untoward incident would happen that is beyond the human power to prevent, I shall not hold the school principal, school paper advisers and the faculty of Minglanilla National Science High School (MNSHS) liable for it. Since this is purely on voluntary process, it is my discretion to allow or not to allow my son/daughter to join in case my mind changes prior to the date.
