The STEP Regional Skills Development and Competition (STEP-RSDC) is an annual competition intended for all the participants showcasing their skills and talents. This event is open for all public schools from different provinces and cities within Region VII.
All qualifiers from each province and city met and competed in the said event. It held at Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City last October 23-25 dubbed as the Student Technologists and Entrepreneurs of the Philippines Division Skills Development and Competition. The said 3-day affair was composed of diverse skills-integrated entrepreneurial activities, including Entrepreneurship and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Integration Skills. The two of five ICT-supported competitions were represented by Minglanilla National Science High School in Division of Cebu Province. The skills for competition were the Newsletter for a Livelihood Publication using Desktop Publishing and for Accounting using MS Excel Spreadsheet.
Among the 13 contestants who competed in the Newsletter for a Livelihood Publication using MS Publisher, and Spreadsheet with MS Excel were as follows: Charles Catipay, under the supervision of Mr. Franklin Luague Jr., who grabbed the second place and Paul Christopher Caña, under the supervision of Mr. Russel Dulosa, who bagged the ninth place.
Despite the number of required days to participate and stay in, preparation got underway for said contestants who didn’t finish off the whole week, but they were taught and trained by their coaches, together with their previous Computer Education teacher Mr. Jobette Escobañas.
The techno-qualities of a good output using ICT seemed prolific because of the efforts of the teachers concerned. The selected Mingscians for said competition have managed themselves as they were singled out as the outstanding STEP contestants, said the principal Mrs. Eutiquia S. Alday.
What this event taught us is that no matter how constrained are we in terms of resources, if we have the passion to dive into the competition, then we can always find ways.
