The MNSHS Girls Badminton Singles Sharlaine Masalta of I-Gold overcame a first set loss and a six point deficit in the first set to win her match over TNHS opponent on Friday in Minglanilla Sports Complex. Masalta also clinched first round bye in the upcoming Girls Badminton Singles tournament with the victory as she has assured herself of no worse than a championship finish in the Municipal Meet. The Mingscian fighter lost the first set 15-21, rallied from down three point lead to win the second set 21-18 and rode dimensional six point lead in the first set in favor of the opponent and three point lead in the second set in favor of her from 15-21 and 21-18 set victories.
Masalta was never expected that she lost in the first set. Her opponent got advantageous of her and was very determined to achieve victory using the techniques in badminton like drop, backhand and smash leading to the score of 15-21 in favor of Tungkop National High School. “This is a game and I want to explore more of my potentials despite the fact that my contender is a hard one to beat,” said TNHS victor in the first set.
In the second set, Masalta did not succumb to the game. She became more alert and aware of the techniques to overdo against her opponent. In the middle of the game, the crowd was shouting and screaming, while the two of them exchanged smashing of balls and gave their best fight to win the game. Through persistent efforts and determination, the second set led to the score of 21-18 in favor of Minglanilla National Science High School.
“I didn’t expect that I’ll win the championship. I am very grateful to all the Mingscians for being there for me and emboldening me to achieve victory,” she said. The winners will compete again for the Provincial Meet next month.
