MINGLANILLA SPORTS COMPLEX – Minglanilla National Science High School (MNSHS) claimed the title as the top secondary school individual girls division on the square boards as it dominated against its contending schools in chess girls board 2 division tournament Friday.
Villaflores, Irene Eve of IV-Platinum swept other opponents from 2 contending schools, against the reigning TNHS champion, in Ruy Lopez opening in the first bracket, but recovered in 2 games to finish a total score 3.5 chess draw in Minglanilla Sports Complex, Minglanilla, Cebu.
Villaflores, in her persistent efforts, ranked 1st in Girls Division in the recently concluded Minglanilla Municipal Meet 2010 held at Minglanilla Sports Complex last September 17.
After almost 8 hours of mind-bleeding game, Villaflores conquered all kings above the board and ranked 1st in Girls Board 2 Division. She was playing all the way in her favourite Ruy Lopez Opening in the first bracket that lost her game against Tulay National High School.
The game led to disappointment upon seeing her blunder in the 15th move, placing her knight to B6. But her struggle didn’t last in the second game against Vito National High School where she got her first board.
The succeeding games favoured Villaflores where she got the score of 3.5 (3 wins, 1 lose and 1 draw) and topped the point system.
“It’s overwhelming!” All the players have understood my book line,” said Villaflores as interviewed by The Access.
Wow, that's good news for the Municipality. I know that MNSHS topnotch in all academic and sports events.
